How To Deal With Toxic People

We all have people in our lives who become toxic to our well-being. It could be a boss, colleague, family, friend, or even a neighbour. Read on for more on how to deal with toxic people and a beneficial exercise that you can do to help you on this journey…

Most times, when we are dealing with toxic people, they seem to drain our energy. We react from emotions and lose our personal power. Has that ever happened to you??

These are some ideas that have really worked for my clients:

1. Know that you are not the problem
2. Don’t try to explain, change, or fix them. It will only drain your energy
3. Rise above their drama. Focus only on your own well-being
4. Learn to mentally disconnect and distance yourself when necessary 
5. Learn to say ‘no’ when needed so that they don’t walk all over you
6. Remind yourself that nobody has the power to affect you unless you allow it

It’s a mindset shift that is extremely necessary! What are you ready to practice?

Here is an exercise to help you in this journey:

1. Take a journal and pen
2. Open to a fresh page
3. Divide it into two columns
4. On the left side write down ‘people who add value to your life and how they make you feel
5. On the right side write down ‘people who drain your energy, and how they make you feel.
6. Please make a list in each column of people who energise you + how you feel with them, and those who drain you + how you feel with them
7. IMPORTANT- Now decide which of the above strategies you are going to use to deal with the people listed on the right 🙂

Claim your peace, happiness and power. After all, nobody can affect you unless you allow them to.
